Bareilly: Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University (MJPRU), Bareilly, has approved a series of significant academic and examination reforms aimed at improving student welfare and aligning the institution with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The decisions were taken during a meeting of the University Examination Committee chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor K.P. Singh at the Committee Hall of the Vice-Chancellor’s Office.
One of the key decisions was the approval of Special Back Examinations for final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students to ensure that eligible students do not lose an academic year. The undergraduate special back examinations will continue to follow the objective-type format, while postgraduate students will appear for written examinations.
The committee also approved the conduct of annual examinations for courses operating under the 2026 annual system, along with the remaining practical and viva-voce examinations.
In a major step towards digital transformation, the university gave in-principle approval to introduce an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based evaluation system. As part of the initiative, AI-enabled assessment will initially be implemented on a pilot basis for mid-semester examinations in selected professional courses. The university also agreed to develop a secure AI-driven evaluation framework and formulate a comprehensive AI-based examination policy.
The committee further approved a revised assessment pattern for co-curricular subjects, allocating 75 per cent marks to written examinations and 25 per cent to internal assessment.
In another reform aligned with NEP 2020, the university agreed in principle to introduce two admission cycles—Fall and Spring—for selected academic programmes, offering students greater flexibility in pursuing higher education.
Recognising the achievements of students participating in extracurricular activities, the university also decided to conduct special examinations without any additional fee for students representing the institution in sports, NCC, NSS and other approved activities when they are unable to appear for scheduled examinations due to official participation.
Addressing the meeting, Vice-Chancellor Professor K.P. Singh urged faculty members to adopt a “parental mode” while dealing with students and emphasised that every academic decision should place student welfare at the centre. “Students are the focal point of education, and every initiative must be dedicated to securing their brighter future,” he said.
The meeting was attended by Registrar Mahendra Kumar Singh, Controller of Examinations Dr Anil Kumar Yadav, Dean Academics Professor S.K. Pandey, Professor Manoj Kumar Singh, Dr Suresh Kumar, Dr Saurabh Verma, Dr Ramkeval, Professor Anupam Mehrotra, Professor Tulika Saxena, Assistant Registrar L.S. Bhandari, Deputy Registrar Sunita Yadav, while Dr Kanika Pandey joined virtually.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Controller of Examinations Dr Anil Kumar Yadav.
