30 Women Employed as ‘Solar Didis’ Under PM Surya Ghar Scheme in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow: In a significant step towards women’s empowerment and the promotion of clean energy, 30 women in Uttar Pradesh have been provided employment under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana. Trained as ‘Solar Didis’, they will play a key role in creating awareness about rooftop solar energy and supporting the implementation of the flagship scheme.

The women have undergone specialized training in solar energy systems, including the installation process, basic maintenance and operation of rooftop solar equipment. They will also educate households about the benefits of adopting solar power and guide them on the government incentives available under the scheme.

As part of their responsibilities, the Solar Didis will conduct door-to-door outreach in both rural and urban areas, encouraging families to install rooftop solar systems and helping them understand the application process.

Officials said the initiative aims to create sustainable livelihood opportunities for women, enhance their financial independence and accelerate the adoption of renewable energy across the state. The newly trained Solar Didis have expressed enthusiasm about their role in promoting clean energy solutions.

The government believes that the initiative will not only strengthen women’s participation in the green energy sector but also help extend the benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana to a larger number of households across Uttar Pradesh.
