New Delhi: State-owned Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has awarded a ₹64.31 crore manufacturing contract to RRP Defense for the supply of advanced telescopic day sights, marking another step towards strengthening India’s indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities under the Make in India initiative.
Under the agreement, RRP Defense will manufacture and supply 16,035 MEPRO X6 Day Sights to BEL. The MEPRO X6 is a compact, lightweight 6x magnification telescopic sight designed for use with assault rifles and light machine guns, providing enhanced target acquisition and accuracy during daylight operations.
The project is being executed under a technology transfer agreement with Israeli defence optics company Meprolight, enabling domestic production of the advanced electro-optical system. According to RRP Defense, the sights will be manufactured entirely in India with a target of achieving 100 per cent indigenous content.
The contract further strengthens the strategic collaboration between BEL, RRP Defense and Meprolight while expanding India’s capacity to manufacture sophisticated weapon sighting systems within the country.
Commenting on the development, Rajendra Chodankar, Founder and Chairman of the RRP Group, said the partnership has enabled the company to acquire advanced technology, manufacturing expertise and exclusive rights to produce the MEPRO X6 for the Indian market. He noted that the initiative would contribute significantly to India’s goal of achieving greater self-reliance in defence production.
Bharat Electronics Limited, a defence public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, continues to play a pivotal role in developing and manufacturing advanced electronic systems and equipment for the Indian Armed Forces. The latest contract aligns with the government’s broader vision of boosting domestic defence manufacturing, reducing import dependence and strengthening the country’s strategic capabilities.
