Lucknow: Isabella Thoburn College, Lucknow actively participated in the One-Day Mega Tree Plantation drive as part of the Uttar Pradesh Government’s massive state-wide initiative, aiming to plant 35 crore (350 million) saplings in a single day. This year, the theme of the plantation campaign was ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ (A Tree in Mother’s Name), an initiative that extends the idea of maternal reverence to Mother Earth herself.
The programme was organised under the guidance of the President, Dr. (Mrs.) E.S. Charles, and the Officiating Principal Dr. Major Neerja Masih,who encouraged college fraternity to contribute towards building a greener and healthier future. The programme began with a gathering of participants in the College chapel, followed by an invocation hymn and a brief introduction by the Officiating Principal, which highlighted the importance of tree plantation in maintaining ecological balance and promoting sustainable development. Participants were then briefed about the plantation schedule, allocation of areas, and guidelines for systematic planting. A total of 100 saplings, provided by the Forest Department, comprising medicinal, herbal, fruit-bearing, and shade-giving trees, were planted at various locations across the college campus.
All faculty members, non-teaching staff, office staff, NSS volunteers, NCC cadets, and students, along with the college gardeners, enthusiastically participated in the plantation drive, planting saplings across the campus and pledging to nurture and protect them.
The programme concluded with a pledge to protect trees, conserve the environment, and inspire others to adopt eco-friendly practices. The successful Plantation Drive highlighted Isabella Thoburn College’s commitment to environmental stewardship and its active participation in the of U.P. Government’s ambitious afforestation campaign.
