Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly is set to become the first legislature in India to deploy an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered surveillance system, marking a major step towards enhancing security, transparency, and smart governance within the Assembly complex.
The Assembly Secretariat has issued an e-tender for the installation of the advanced surveillance network. Officials said the installation process is expected to be completed within 45 days of the contract being awarded. The initiative was announced by Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana during the state’s Budget Session.
The AI-enabled surveillance system is expected to be operational before the upcoming Winter Session, enabling real-time monitoring and recording of activities across the Assembly premises.
Advanced AI Features
The proposed system will incorporate several advanced technologies designed to strengthen security and improve operational efficiency. These include:

- AI-powered facial recognition, capable of identifying individuals even if their faces are partially covered or their appearance has changed due to facial hair or hairstyle.
- Watchlist alerts, which will immediately notify security personnel if a blacklisted or suspicious individual enters the premises.
- Automated reporting, generating records containing the person’s identity, date, time, and location of detection.
- Crowd analytics, enabling the system to identify and track individuals in large gatherings.
- Comprehensive data recording, including photographs, video, audio, and movement analysis using AI and deep-learning technologies.
Integrated with Existing Infrastructure
The new security architecture will comprise 42 advanced surveillance devices integrated with the Assembly’s existing audio-visual infrastructure. The selected technology provider will be required to certify full compatibility with the current systems to ensure seamless operation.
Strengthening Security and Accountability
Speaker Satish Mahana has described the initiative as a transformative step towards improving security and transparency in the functioning of the Assembly. According to him, the AI-powered system will help prevent unauthorised access while maintaining a comprehensive digital record of activities within the legislature, thereby enhancing accountability.
Officials believe the technology will significantly improve surveillance capabilities by enabling quicker threat detection, automated monitoring, and more efficient incident response.
Once operational, the Uttar Pradesh Assembly is expected to set a benchmark for the adoption of AI-driven security solutions in legislative institutions across the country, reinforcing the state’s push towards technology-enabled governance and modern public infrastructure.
