Lucknow/Meerut: Students of the Meerut Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) have been honoured with the Best Startup Award at the 24th Convocation of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) for their innovative AI and Extended Reality (XR)-based education technology venture.
The award was presented in the Women-Led Startup category to Irtika Rahman Ansari, a B.Tech student at MIET, and Yash Tomar, founders of WeXR Immersive Pvt. Ltd. Their startup secured the first prize among five outstanding startups from Uttar Pradesh recognised at the convocation ceremony held in Lucknow.
The awards were presented by Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel in the presence of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) Chairman Arvind Singh Sahney, Technical Education Minister Ashish Patel, Principal Secretary Dr. M.K. Shanmuga Sundaram, and AKTU Vice-Chancellor Dr. J.P. Pandey.
Founded by Yash Tomar and co-founded by Irtika Rahman Ansari, WeXR Immersive Pvt. Ltd. is an education technology startup that combines Extended Reality (Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and Mixed Reality) with Artificial Intelligence (AI) to transform conventional classroom learning into immersive, hands-on educational experiences.

The startup, which has been under development for the past two years and was officially registered in August 2025, has developed WeXR NEXA Virtual Labs, an AI-powered virtual laboratory platform. The solution enables students to conduct practical experiments in a virtual environment, making experiential learning accessible even in schools and colleges with limited laboratory infrastructure.
Beyond education, the company has also created immersive technology solutions for public awareness and professional training. These include a virtual reality simulation on water conservation for the Ghaziabad Jal Nigam and VR-based fire safety and emergency evacuation training modules designed to improve preparedness through realistic simulations.
The founders said their mission is to make education and skill development more accessible, effective, and affordable by leveraging emerging technologies such as AI and XR.
Congratulating the award winners, MIET Chairman Vishnu Sharan, Vice-Chairpersons Gaurav Agrawal and Barkha Agrawal, Campus Director Dr. Sanjay Kumar Singh, and Rehan Ahmad, CEO of the MIET Incubation Forum, said the institute remains committed to fostering innovation, research, and entrepreneurship among students. They expressed confidence that MIET students would continue to contribute to technological advancement and nation-building through cutting-edge innovations.
