Actress Fights Her Own Legal Battle Without Formal Legal Training
Mumbai (Anil Bedag): Actress and Stage 4 cancer survivor Rozlyn Khan has added another remarkable chapter to her inspiring journey by representing herself before the Supreme Court of India without the assistance of a lawyer. Demonstrating exceptional courage and determination, Rozlyn personally argued her case despite having no formal legal education, proving that resilience and self-belief can help overcome even the most daunting challenges.
After nearly a decade of legal proceedings, the matter has now reached its final stage, with the judgment reserved and awaited.
Rozlyn appeared as a party-in-person before a bench comprising Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta. Facing a legal team representing the opposing side, she confidently presented her arguments in Hindi. According to Rozlyn, the use of Hindi during the proceedings enabled her to follow every aspect of the hearing clearly and participate more effectively.
The case concerns allegations of professional misconduct and has remained under consideration within the Bar Council system for almost ten years. Throughout this prolonged legal battle, Rozlyn faced numerous personal challenges, including her fight against Stage 4 cancer. Despite undergoing chemotherapy, making frequent hospital visits, and focusing on her recovery, she continued to attend court proceedings whenever required.
During the hearing, Rozlyn requested additional time to continue her submissions. In response, Justice Vikram Nath remarked, “Hearings do not continue here after 4 p.m.” The arguments have since concluded, and the court has reserved its judgment.
Reflecting on her journey, Rozlyn Khan said, “I live life on my own terms. Whether it was cancer or the courtroom, I faced every battle head-on.”
