Lucknow: Under this year’s International Yoga Day theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) organized two large-scale yoga sessions in Lucknow. Conducted under the guidance of experienced yoga instructors, the sessions focused on yoga postures, breathing techniques, and meditation to promote physical and mental well-being.
Main Event Held at Transport Nagar Metro Depot
The primary celebration was organized at the Transport Nagar Metro Depot, where Managing Director, UPMRC, Shri Sushil Kumar, along with senior officials, technical personnel, and administrative staff, participated in a collective yoga session. Various yoga asanas were performed under the guidance of invited yoga experts, with the objective of enhancing employees’ efficiency, focus, and overall well-being at the workplace.
Enthusiastic Participation by Passengers at Hazratganj Metro Station
To benefit the public and metro commuters, a special yoga session was also conducted at the Hazratganj Metro Station. Passengers travelling on Sunday morning took time out before their journeys to participate in the session. The initiative aimed to help commuters manage stress, learn proper pranayama techniques, and raise awareness about the theme of healthy ageing.

The effort was widely appreciated for promoting wellness amid the fast-paced routine of everyday life.
Yoga: A Long-standing Tradition at UPMRC
UPMRC has been consistently promoting yoga as part of its organizational culture. For the past several years, daily yoga sessions have been incorporated into the mandatory three-month induction training programme for all newly recruited employees, helping them remain physically fit, mentally alert, and professionally productive.
On the occasion, Managing Director Sushil Kumar said:“In a demanding work environment such as metro operations, yoga serves as an effective tool for managing daily stress and maintaining efficiency. This year’s theme, ‘Yoga for Healthy Ageing,’ highlights how regular yoga and pranayama help preserve physical mobility, mental peace, and inner vitality even as we age. Every individual should make yoga an integral part of their daily routine to achieve physical and mental balance.” Simultaneously, Yoga Day was also celebrated at Kanpur and Agra Metro depots.
