Lucknow Metro Unveils Ambitious 10-Corridor Expansion Plan

Lucknow: Lucknow is set for a major transportation transformation with plans to expand the metro network across the state capital and its neighbouring districts. The proposed mega expansion by the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) envisions a 150-170 km network connecting key urban and suburban regions, including Barabanki, Unnao, Mohanlalganj and Ayodhya Road corridors.

The flagship project is the 11.16-km East-West Corridor from Charbagh to Vasant Kunj, featuring seven underground and five elevated stations. The expansion blueprint also includes corridors linking Rajajipuram to IIM Lucknow, Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport to Kalli West, Indira Nagar to CG City, CG City to SGPGI, and Munshipulia to Jankipuram.

The longest proposed route, stretching 34.8 km between Vasant Kunj and Kalli West, will significantly improve connectivity across the city’s western and southern zones. Additional corridors will extend metro services to Barabanki through Anora Kala and strengthen links along Ayodhya Road.

Estimated to cost around ₹30,000 crore and to be implemented over the next decade, the project will include modern facilities such as e-bikes, e-cycles and multi-level parking at stations. Once completed, the expanded network is expected to create a regional transit grid similar to the connectivity model seen in the National Capital Region.
