Two Arrested by Kaiserbagh Police Station for Stealing Lights from Public Places

Lucknow: The Kaiserbagh Police Station arrested two alleged thieves involved in stealing decorative façade lights and steel light grills from public places in the city. Police also recovered stolen lighting equipment from their possession.

According to police officials, a complaint was lodged on May 16, 2026, by Rizwan Hussain, a resident of Saadatganj, alleging that unknown persons had stolen façade lights installed at the premises of Maqbara Saadat Ali Khan. Based on the complaint, a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at the police station.

The investigation was being conducted by Sub-Inspector Chandan Kumar Mishra. During the probe, police examined CCTV footage from the surrounding area and activated local informers to trace the accused.

Police later received information that the suspects involved in the theft were present near Saadat Ali Maqbara Park and were planning to flee. Acting on the tip-off, a police team reached the spot and apprehended the two accused after a brief chase when they attempted to escape.

The arrested accused were identified as Altamash Khan, 19, resident of Qutubpur near Chaman Park under Hasan Ganj police station, and Sohel, 23, resident of Qutubpur in Lucknow.

During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed that they used to steal lights and other items from parks and public places before selling them to passersby to fund their addiction and personal expenses. Police said the accused admitted to stealing façade lights and steel grills from the park area of Maqbara Saadat Ali Khan.

Based on their disclosure, police recovered 10 Philips façade lights and three steel light grills hidden beneath piles of leaves near Raja Ram Pal Park.

The accused were formally taken into custody on May 24, 2026, at around 12:50 am. Additional sections related to possession and concealment of stolen property were also added to the case. Both accused are being produced before the court for further legal proceedings.
