New Delhi: The Delhi government’s petition demanding additional water regarding the increasing drinking water crisis in Delhi (Delhi Water Crisis) was heard in the Supreme Court on Thursday. During this, the Delhi government got a big relief from the Supreme Court. The apex court has directed to give additional water to Delhi. A vacation bench of Justice Prashant Mishra and Justice KV Vishwanathan is hearing this matter.
The Supreme Court has directed the Himachal Pradesh government to release 137 cusecs of water. It has also said that Haryana will provide the facility to release water to Delhi. The Himachal government will release water on Friday. The Supreme Court said that Himachal Pradesh is ordered to release 137 cusecs of water to Himachal tomorrow. Care should be taken that there is no wastage of water in Delhi in any way.
The court said that the Haryana government should allow the flow of water from Himachal to reach Wazirabad in Delhi without any hindrance, so that the people of Delhi can get drinking water. The Supreme Court has also asked the Haryana government to cooperate in reaching Delhi with water from the canal falling in its area. The next hearing of the case will be on Monday. The court has asked all the parties to file a status report.
The ASG placed the report of the Upper Yamuna River Board before the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court said that the stakeholders present in the meeting did not deny that there is a situation of severe heat in Delhi. The Supreme Court said that the Upper Yamuna River Board was not given data of any shortage of water in Haryana, while Delhi has sought 150 cusecs of water to meet the demand for drinking water to deal with the heatwave situation.
