Lucknow: With the conclusion of the Uttar Pradesh Budget Session, tourists can once again explore the iconic State Assembly as part of the popular ‘Lucknow Darshan’ city tour. The visit to the Assembly had been temporarily suspended due to security arrangements during the session.
Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh announced that the grand and historic Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha has now been reinstated in the itinerary. Known for its magnificent architecture, massive dome and historical significance, the Assembly building is a symbol of democracy and a key landmark of the capital.
Operated by the Uttar Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (UPSTDC), the electric double-decker ‘Lucknow Darshan’ bus service offers tourists a comprehensive tour of the city’s historical, cultural and political heritage. The service runs twice daily—morning and evening—from 1090 Chauraha.
One of the tour’s major highlights is the historic Ring Theatre, now the General Post Office Lucknow. Following the Kakori Train Action of August 9, 1925, the British government set up a special court here to try revolutionaries. The trial, which lasted nearly 10 months, led to the death sentences of freedom fighters Ram Prasad Bismil, Rajendra Nath Lahiri, Thakur Roshan Singh and Ashfaqulla Khan, while others were awarded life imprisonment and rigorous jail terms. Today, remnants of that era are preserved in a museum at the site, offering visitors a powerful glimpse into India’s freedom struggle.
Minister Jaiveer Singh stated that the inclusion of the Assembly building once again enhances the appeal of the tour, allowing visitors to connect not only with history but also with the functioning of democracy. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding tourism and showcasing Uttar Pradesh’s rich legacy.
Tickets for the tour can be booked through the official website or at the departure point. The fare is ₹500 for adults and ₹400 for children. Equipped with trained guides and powered by eco-friendly electric buses, the service ensures a comfortable and environmentally sustainable travel experience through the heart of Lucknow.
