Lucknow: With the objective of making Lucknow free from beggary, the “Beggary-Free Lucknow Campaign” has been running continuously for the past two years across the district. Under this sustained initiative, the district administration has constituted seven dedicated task forces to monitor 19 major traffic intersections of the city.
These task forces comprise personnel from the Women Welfare Department, Social Welfare Department, Municipal Corporation, DUDA, and other concerned agencies. Deployed daily at designated crossings, the teams actively discourage individuals—women, men, and children—from engaging in beggary. Instead, they counsel them and make consistent efforts to link them with various government welfare schemes, encouraging rehabilitation and self-reliance.

As part of this ongoing drive, on January 31, 2026, acting on the directions of the District Magistrate, a joint operation was conducted under the leadership of the District Probation Officer and ACM-7. The team, with the support of the Women Welfare Department, Gudamba Police Station personnel, and Municipal Corporation staff, took action at Tedhi Pulia, where some individuals had temporarily settled under the bridge.

The occupants were sensitively counseled and persuaded to vacate the area. The space beneath the bridge was cleared to prevent its use for beggary activities in the surrounding localities. Officials stated that such actions are being carried out with a humane approach, focusing on awareness, rehabilitation, and long-term solutions rather than punitive measures.
The district administration reiterated its commitment to intensifying field-level efforts and expressed confidence that, through sustained coordination and community engagement, Lucknow will successfully achieve the goal of becoming a beggary-free district in the future.
