Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh is steadily strengthening its position as a major centre for technology and digital innovation, with the proposed Artificial Intelligence (AI) City in Lucknow emerging as the next landmark initiative in the state’s development roadmap.
Envisioned under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the AI City is expected to provide fresh momentum to economic growth while placing Uttar Pradesh firmly on the global technology map. The Chief Minister has reiterated the state government’s commitment to the project, describing it as a transformative step toward future-ready governance and innovation-driven development.

According to officials, the AI City will be developed in two phases. Around 60 per cent of the total area will be designated as a core technology zone, featuring AI innovation centres, advanced research facilities, and technology parks. The remaining 40 per cent will be developed as a mixed-use zone comprising residential spaces, commercial establishments, and social infrastructure to support a sustainable urban ecosystem.
The project aligns with the state government’s long-term objective of transforming Uttar Pradesh into a USD 1 trillion economy within the next five years. Information Technology, IT-enabled services, and Artificial Intelligence have been identified as key growth drivers in this journey. To ensure optimal participation and investment, the AI City will be developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, combining private-sector expertise with government support.
Planned as a self-sustained technology hub, the Lucknow AI City will house state-of-the-art data centres, high-performance computing facilities, AI research laboratories, startup incubation hubs, and modern office spaces for domestic and global technology firms. The aim is to provide a single, integrated platform where companies can innovate, collaborate, and scale their operations efficiently. The project is being designed with the vision of positioning Lucknow among the world’s leading AI hubs.

Lucknow’s strong academic foundation is expected to play a pivotal role in the success of the initiative. Institutions such as IIM Lucknow and IIIT Lucknow are already contributing significantly to research, innovation, and skill development. Experts believe close collaboration between the AI City and these institutions will help create a robust and future-ready talent pool.
The AI City is also projected to generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities, benefiting IT professionals, data scientists, engineers, researchers, and startup entrepreneurs. Importantly, it is expected to create high-quality job opportunities for local youth, reducing migration to other states in search of employment.
Officials added that the AI City will be developed on a green and sustainable model, integrating modern infrastructure with environmentally responsible practices, reinforcing Uttar Pradesh’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable growth.
