Daughters Empowered Through Personal Safety Awareness Under International Girl Child Week

Lucknow– In a pioneering initiative under Mission Shakti 5.0, the Women and Child Development Department, Uttar Pradesh, conducted state-wide Personal Safety Awareness programs for girls as part of International Girl Child Week (October 3–11). The initiative aims to educate young girls and women on self-defense, personal security, and legal rights, reinforcing the message of empowerment and protection.

Workshops and interactive sessions were organized at district, block, and village levels, including schools, where experts trained girls in basic self-defense techniques, crisis response strategies, cyber safety, and accessing helplines. The sessions also highlighted their legal rights and practical measures to ensure safety in various social or personal scenarios. Girls actively participated, asked questions, and expressed that such initiatives boost confidence and foster a culture of safety within families and communities.

The programs were conducted with the presence of subject experts, social workers, and trainers. Leena Johri, Additional Chief Secretary, Women and Child Development, emphasized, “Personal safety awareness is as essential for every girl as education. This initiative marks a major step toward ensuring security and self-reliance for girls across Uttar Pradesh.”

Mission Shakti’s efforts underline the principle that awareness is the strongest shield for protection, fostering a safer and more respectful environment for girls and women across the state.
