Lucknow : Panic gripped the Alam Bagh area of Lucknow late Wednesday night after a brutal double murder left residents stunned. A man, identified as Jagdeep, allegedly murdered his father-in-law and mother-in-law by slitting their throats following a heated argument at their home.
The victims, Antaram (75) and Asha Devi (73), were residents of Garhi Kanaura, under the jurisdiction of Alambagh police station. The horrific crime took place when Jagdeep, who had been having ongoing disputes with his wife Poonam, visited his in-laws’ home in an attempt to persuade her to return to his house.
According to police sources, Jagdeep and Poonam had a troubled marriage since their wedding in 2016. After years of alleged abuse and conflict, Poonam had returned to her parental home two months ago. On Wednesday evening, Jagdeep arrived uninvited and demanded that Poonam accompany him back. When she refused, an argument ensued.
In a fit of rage, Jagdeep attacked his in-laws with a knife, fatally injuring both. Neighbours rushed to the scene upon hearing the commotion and managed to catch Jagdeep as he tried to flee. He was reportedly beaten by locals before being handed over to the police.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Ashish Srivastava confirmed the arrest and stated that Jagdeep confessed to the crime during interrogation. “The man was enraged by his ongoing marital issues and took out his frustration on his in-laws, who were trying to intervene,” the DCP said.
Both victims were rushed to a hospital, where they were declared brought dead. The murder weapon has been recovered and a case of double homicide has been registered. Jagdeep remains in police custody, and further legal proceedings are underway.
This shocking case has once again highlighted the growing incidence of domestic violence and its potentially deadly consequences.
