Lucknow: In a significant operation, the Madiyanv Police, under Zone North, nabbed two notorious drug smugglers involved in the illegal trade of narcotics. The police recovered 978 grams of charas, with an estimated international market value of approximately Rs 20 lakh.
Incident Details: A police team from Madiyanv was stationed at Naubasta Mode as part of routine crime prevention, search for wanted criminals, and checking of suspicious persons and vehicles. While conducting these checks near Madiyanv Bridge, the police spotted two individuals exhibiting suspicious behavior. On noticing the police, the two men attempted to flee but were apprehended by the alert police team.
Upon questioning, the suspects admitted to carrying the narcotic substance charas and were planning to sell it. The arrested individuals have been identified as:
- Abdul Majeed (25), son of Mohd. Ahmed, a resident of Purani Bazar Pachpedwa, Police Station Pachpedwa, District Balrampur. He was found in possession of 493 grams of charas.
- Ramjeet Rajput (34), son of Bhudhar Prasad, a resident of Astiroad near Shankarji Ka Mandir, Police Station BKT, District Lucknow. He had 485 grams of charas in his possession.
The suspects were unable to produce any valid documents for the narcotic substance in their possession. They were promptly informed of their offense under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act and were arrested at 11:55 PM on 03-10-2024.

Legal Proceedings: An FIR (No. 607/24) has been registered under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act at the local police station. The entire operation was carried out following the directives of the Hon’ble Supreme Court and the Human Rights Commission. After completing the required legal formalities, the accused will be presented before the Hon’ble Court.
Further investigation is underway, and information is being sought regarding the criminal backgrounds of the accused from other districts and police stations.
