Lucknow: A workshop on TB was organised at Kalam Centre of KGMU for doctors and health workers of three government medical colleges of the capital, King George Medical University, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute and SGPGI along with five private medical colleges, Integral Medical College, Era Medical College, Career Medical College, TS Mishra Medical College and Prasad Medical College.
The workshop was organised by District Tuberculosis Centre Lucknow and Respiratory Medicine Department of KGMU. On this occasion, Dr. Suryakant, Chairman of North Zone Task Force of National Tuberculosis Eradication Programme and Head of Respiratory Medicine Department of KGMU, said that just as human life is made up of five elements (earth, water, sky, air, fire). Similarly, there are five main symptoms of TB which all doctors and health workers should know.
He explained in detail about these five symptoms that cough for more than two weeks, blood in cough, fever which increases in the evening and sweating with fever at night, loss of appetite and weight loss. If a person has any of these five symptoms, then he may have TB, for this two sputum tests and chest X-ray are done.
It is known that KGMU has been given the responsibility of training all the doctors, health workers of all the medical colleges, district hospitals, health centers of UP about TB, which was started in February 2024 by Partha Sarathi Sen Sharma, Principal Secretary of Medical Education and Health Department of UP and KGMU Vice Chancellor Dr. Sonia Nityanand.
It is known that the Department of Respiratory Medicine of KGMU has international reputation in the field of TB and the World Health Organization has declared it as the Center of Excellence for Drug Resistant TB. District Tuberculosis Officer Dr. Atul Kumar Singhal, workshop coordinator Dr. Ajay Kumar Verma, organizing secretary Dr. Darshan Kumar Bajaj, co-secretary Dr. Jyoti Bajpai, Dr. Ankit Kumar also addressed the workshop.
On this occasion, Dr. GK Singh, former head of the orthopedics department of KGMU and currently working as a professor in Prasad Medical College, Dr. Richa Mishra, chairperson of TB research in UP, Dr. SK Singh of KGMU, Dr. Prashant Bajpai, Dr. Amit Kumar, Dr. Parul Jain, Dr. Sarika Gupta and other doctors gave training to the participants regarding TB.
In the workshop, all the participants were trained on topics such as ordinary TB, MDR TB, TB of organs other than lungs, side effects of TB medicines etc.
