UP Government Cracks Down on Anti-National Social Media Activity Following Army Operation

Lucknow : In the wake of a recent Indian Army operation, the Uttar Pradesh government has taken a firm stance against the spread of misinformation and anti-national content on social media. Acting on the directives of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Director General of Police (DGP) Prashant Kumar has issued strict orders for legal action against individuals disseminating false narratives and inflammatory propaganda online.

Under the close supervision of Additional Director General of Police (Law & Order) Amitabh Yash, a special team at the police headquarters’ Social Media Centre is monitoring social platforms round-the-clock (24×7). As part of this extensive surveillance, 40 social media accounts have been identified for spreading false, misleading, or anti-national content. Out of these, 25 individuals have already been arrested.

Furthermore, efforts are underway through the Cyber Crime Headquarters to have all 40 accounts blocked or removed from respective platforms.

Accounts Identified in the Crackdown

Some of the social media handles flagged include:

  • Instagram accounts: love_youzindagi_002, sadiq999d, Krish Yadav, PRAGYA SHIVA VERMA, ali.baba_295, and others

  • Facebook accounts: Sajid Ali, Ankit Kumar, Guddu Baig, Mohd Riyaz, Akeel Khan, हबीबुल्ला अंसारी, and more

  • YouTube account: Aamir Khan 2693

  • Fake political profiles, including one impersonating an MP from Budaun

DGP’s Warning to the Public

DGP Prashant Kumar issued a public appeal urging citizens to verify information, videos, and photos before sharing them on social media.

“Do not post or forward any unverified content. Such activities can trigger panic, spread rumors, and tarnish the reputation of the Indian Army. Sharing misleading or anti-national material is a punishable offense,” he emphasized.

The Uttar Pradesh Police has also activated its official fact-checking handle @UPPViralCheck on X (formerly Twitter) for real-time verification of potentially misleading content.

The police have reiterated that continuous monitoring of all major social media platforms is in effect, and stringent action will be taken against those engaging in digital subversion or attempting to disturb public order.

This decisive move underscores the state government’s zero-tolerance policy toward digital misinformation and its commitment to national security.
