Lucknow: In a major crackdown on thefts at railway stations, the Government Railway Police (GRP) Charbagh apprehended a notorious thief and recovered two stolen mobile phones from his possession. The arrest was made as part of an ongoing campaign to curb theft, robbery, drug trafficking, and other crimes on trains and railway stations, as directed by senior railway police officials.
Under the instructions of Additional Director General of Police (Railways), Uttar Pradesh, and the supervision of Deputy Inspector General of Police (Railways), Uttar Pradesh, as well as Superintendent of Railway Police, Lucknow, Prashant Verma, a special task force was constituted. The team, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (Railways) First, Amit Kumar Singh, and Inspector-in-Charge, Dharmveer Singh, successfully apprehended the accused on February 19, 2025.

Incident Summary: The accused confessed that he had stolen one of the recovered mobile phones from Kolkata Express, which was stationed at Charbagh railway station about ten months ago while en route to Ayodhya. The second mobile phone was stolen from a female passenger’s seat aboard the Akal Takht Express heading towards Moradabad around four months ago. The accused admitted that he had arrived at Charbagh to sell the stolen phones due to financial difficulties when he was caught.
Modus Operandi: The accused is a habitual and skilled thief who targets passengers boarding trains. He specializes in stealing mobile phones, bags, and other valuables from passengers, particularly those who are asleep or distracted.

He quickly sells the stolen items to avoid detection. On this occasion, he was attempting to sell the stolen mobile phones when the police apprehended him.
