Lucknow: Lucknow Management Association in collaboration with Fortis Escorts Heart Institute organised a Health Awareness Talk in Lucknow. The event aimed to explore ways to keep the heart healthy, considering the alarming rise in heart related ailments in Lucknow and adjoining regions. Dr ZS Meherwal, Executive Director and Head-Cardiac Surgery, Heart Transplantation and VAD program, Fortis Escorts Heart Institute shared insights on rising incidences of heart attack and cardiac arrests and elaborated on different methods to keep heart health at check.
Speaking at the event, Dr ZS Meherwal, Executive Director and Head-Cardiac Surgery, Heart Transplantation and VAD program, Fortis Escorts Heart Institute said, “Heart attacks were previously believed to affect only older individuals, but now they are affecting every other young person between the age of 30 and 40. Heart disease is a significant cause of death worldwide and its prevalence has risen in India over the past five years. This rise in cardiac arrest and related issues is attributed to our fast-paced lifestyle and changes in habits. India has one of the highest burden of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in the world, and this is also true for young cardiac patients. According to a study published in the journal Circulation, over 50% of heart attacks in Indian men occur under the age of 50, and one-fourth of all acute myocardial infarctions (MIs) are reported in patients below 40 years.
