Geneva: At the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), India’s Ruchira Kamboj supported the Palestinian application for UN membership while demanding the release of Israeli captives detained in Gaza.
According to Ruchira Kamboj, India’s permanent representative to the UN, the seven-month-old war has sparked a humanitarian catastrophe that might lead to more instability in the area.
Nonetheless, Kamboj maintained that India takes a firm stand against terrorism and called for the release of the captives. “Many civilian lives have been lost as a result of the continuing battle between Israel and Hamas, particularly those of women and children. The humanitarian disaster that has resulted is intolerable, according to Kamboj.
“We have vehemently denounced the conflict’s civilian casualties. Under all circumstances, everyone must uphold international law and international humanitarian law,” she said.
Next, Kamboj restated India’s long-standing stance in favor of Palestine’s UN membership and a two-state resolution to the Israel-Palestine issue.
“We have voted in favor of this resolution because we support Palestine’s membership in the UN, in line with our long-standing position,” she said.
We hope that Palestine’s application will be given further consideration by the Security Council and that its efforts to join the UN will be approved. Reiterating India’s position on the conflict that has lasted for more than 50 years, Kamboj stated, “India is committed to supporting a two-state solution where the Palestinian people are able to live freely in an independent country within secure borders, with due regard for Israel’s security needs.”
We see the UNSC’s adoption of resolution 2728 as a step in the right direction in this regard. Gaza’s humanitarian condition is very bad. To prevent the situation from becoming worse, it is crucial that humanitarian aid to the Gaza population be increased right now, the speaker said.
Terrorism and hostage-taking cannot have any legitimacy. India demands the immediate and unconditional release of all captives, citing the country’s long-standing and unwavering stance against terrorism in all of its forms and manifestations.
According to Kamboj, India has given and will continue to offer humanitarian help to the Palestinian people. It has also been observed that Israeli authorities have made it easier for humanitarian supplies to enter the blockaded and war-torn coastal enclave.
