LUCKNOW: A heroic and compassionate act by the Hazratganj police on December 31, 2024, saved the life of a young man who was attempting suicide. The timely and courageous intervention of the police ensured that a tragic situation was averted.
At approximately 10:45 AM, the Hazratganj police received a distressing call reporting that a man, identified as Upkar Singh Patel, was in a highly intoxicated state and had locked himself in his house, attempting to take his own life. The report indicated that the individual had slashed the vein in his right arm, and blood was splattered across other rooms in the house.
Recognizing the severity of the situation, Sub-Inspector Shivam Pandey and Vipin Kumar Shukla, along with their team, rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, they tried to persuade the man to open the door, but he refused. In a desperate attempt to save his life, the police forcefully broke down the door and entered, only to find that the man had locked himself in another room.
Undeterred, the police broke down the second door, but the man managed to escape through a rear exit. Displaying remarkable professionalism, the officers quickly scaled the boundary wall and pursued him. The officers caught up with the individual and, without wasting any time, had him transported to the Civil Hospital in Lucknow via ambulance, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
The injured man was identified as 29-year-old Upkar Singh Patel, a resident of Parag Narayan Road. His mother, Manju Verma, was immediately informed about the situation and rushed to the hospital to be by her son’s side during his treatment.
This remarkable action by the Hazratganj police not only highlights their quick thinking and bravery but also serves as an exemplary model of humanity and service, reflecting their unwavering commitment to the well-being of the community.
