Can Mahua Moitra help TMC make inroads into Kerala ?

Kozhikode: In a significant political move, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra is spearheading the party’s expansion strategy in Kerala. Moitra has scheduled a series of closed-door meetings on February 22 and 23 in Kozhikode and Malappuram, with the objective of strengthening TMC’s presence in the state. This initiative underscores the party’s ambition to establish a foothold in Kerala’s dynamic political landscape.

As part of her two-day visit, Moitra is expected to engage in key discussions with prominent Christian and Muslim leaders, including IUML state president Panakkad Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal, Kanthapuram A P Aboobacker Musliyar, officials from the Samastha Kerala Jem’iyyathul Ulama, and Mar Remigiose Inchananiyil, the bishop of the Syro-Malabar Church’s Thamarassery diocese. Additionally, she will visit the historic Tali temple in Kozhikode.

A major highlight of the visit is the ‘United for Progress’ leadership conclave, organized by the All India Trinamool Congress Kerala (AITC-Kerala) on February 23 at PVR Metro Village, Manjeri. TMC MPs Yusuf Khan Pathan and Derek O’Brien will join Moitra in this strategic session, reflecting the party’s commitment to Kerala’s political scene.

The TMC’s national general secretary, Abhishek Banerjee, has reportedly directed the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) to conduct an in-depth analysis of Kerala’s political environment. This assessment aims to shape TMC’s long-term strategy in the state.

Organizational Expansion and Strategy

In addition to outreach efforts, Moitra will hold a closed-door meeting with TMC cadres in Kerala, facilitated by the party’s state coordinator, P V Anvar. Discussions will focus on committee formations and selecting key office-bearers to streamline the party’s structure.

According to internal reports, the TMC currently has around 500 active members in Kerala. While the party is a relatively new player in the state’s political spectrum, Mahua Moitra’s leadership signals a determined push to establish a stronghold. Her fiery oratory skills and vocal opposition to the central government make her an influential figure in Indian politics, further heightening interest in TMC’s Kerala mission.

Political observers are closely monitoring this development, as TMC’s entry into Kerala could potentially reshape the state’s political equations. The upcoming meetings and leadership conclave will play a crucial role in determining the party’s trajectory in Kerala’s competitive political landscape.
