Greater Noida/Lucknow: The Higher Education Department of Uttar Pradesh made a grand display of its major initiatives and achievements at the UP International Trade Fair organized at India Expo Center Mart, Greater Noida from 25 to 29 September 2024. Under the leadership of Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay, the department showcased its significant progress and policies made in the field of education on this occasion.
Principal Secretary, Higher Education, M.P. Agarwal inspected the stall of the department at the fair and also gave some important suggestions for improvement. This stall was a special attraction in the fair, where initiatives such as implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in education, promotion of regional languages and integration of Indian Knowledge System (IKS) in higher education were prominently presented.
The aim of the Higher Education Promotion Policy in the state is to attract private and foreign universities to invest in the state. Under this policy, financial facilities will be given to encourage stamp duty exemption, capital subsidy and use of renewable energy. Along with this, the National Education Policy 2020 has been implemented in all courses in the state, which includes provisions like four-year undergraduate program, multidisciplinary and continuous internal assessment. This policy has come into effect in all except the courses which come under the regulatory bodies.
The Uttar Pradesh government has taken important steps towards making education digitally and technologically empowered. Tablets and mobile devices have been distributed to the students, and e-studios have been set up for online education in Prayagraj. Additionally, more than 41 lakh students have been registered in the Academic Bank of Credits, and the ‘Samartha-ERP’ system has been implemented in all universities of the state. Along with this, centers have been set up to promote regional languages in higher education institutions and e-content is being prepared in local languages to make education more accessible.
With an aim to connect students with Indian culture and traditions, Indian knowledge system has been included in the first unit of each subject, thereby introducing students to the ancient art, culture and science of India. Additionally, during the fair, many investors showed interest in setting up universities and colleges in Uttar Pradesh, who see the state emerging as an educational hub.
