Pratik Sehajpal on playing Ridday in Ishika Shahi’s The Lift: “The content of this show is very different”

Mumbai: Pratik Sehajpal gets to explore varied dimensions of acting in his latest project The Lift, produced by Ishika Shahi and presented by Directors Kut Production on YouTube. The series sees the actor playing Ridday, which is another interesting addition to his journey from reality television to fiction and digital storytelling. However, Pratik was not just attracted to the project because of the platform or the opportunity, but because of the content and the people involved.

Pratik says, speaking about what made him say yes to The Lift, “I will tell you what, the content of this show is very different from what we usually do. This content is very different from the love stories that we usually do and other things that we do. “I think that’s what really made me feel that I should do this.”

The actor also finds the association with the team behind the project particularly special. “I think it’s a privilege for me to be associated with such great legendary personalities,” says Pratik, working with an established production team. “That’s a very big thing.”

He has a personal connection to the team, too. Pratik says, “I remember my days in Delhi. My mother used to watch shows associated with the production house including Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. “When I was in Delhi, my mother used to watch their show. She was a big fan of shows like that. “From sitting in Delhi and watching television with my mother to now working with them, tell me, how big a thing is that?” he says.

The journey has also made Pratik realise the importance of having the right directors around an actor. “The directors I’ve worked with have helped me find performances I might not have found myself,” he says.

“I don’t know if I am a good actor or not. But my directors have been so good and they are so good that they have made people feel that I am a good actor,” Pratik says.

He also thanks the directors he’s worked with for trusting him and allowing him to explore different sides of his performance. “I’m very lucky. ‘I’ve had such good directors who’ve made me do such performances,’ he adds.

The Lift Pratik is stepping into a new space as an actor once again. As Ridday, he’s hoping to keep exploring characters and stories that challenge him. “I’m open to different formats and opportunities as the digital entertainment landscape continues to evolve.”
