Lucknow: Balika Vidyalaya Intermediate College, Moti Nagar, Lucknow, celebrated the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri with enthusiasm and patriotic fervour.
The celebrations began with a Prabhat Pheri, in which students and teachers participated enthusiastically. This was followed by floral tributes and garlanding of portraits of the two national leaders on the school premises.
Addressing the students, Principal Dr Leena Mishra said the occasion was more than a formal celebration, as it offered an opportunity to reflect on the ideals and principles of the two great leaders. She encouraged students to embrace truth, non-violence, simplicity, discipline, honesty and service to the nation to contribute towards building a stronger society.
The programme was organised under the guidance of Poonam Yadav, Ragini Yadav, Manjula Yadav and Pratibha Rani. Class 10 student Kajal Tiwari compered the event.
Students presented patriotic songs and dances, creating an atmosphere of national pride. Devotional renditions of Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram and Vaishnav Jan To Tene Kahiye added a spiritual touch to the celebrations. Students also prepared paintings and slogans highlighting the lives, values and contributions of Gandhi and Shastri.
In the junior poster competition, Prameen Bano of Class 7 secured first place, followed by Priya in second position and Shambhavi Shukla of Class 6 in third. Ayesha of Class 8 received a consolation prize.
In the senior poster competition, Aradhana Nishad of Class 12 won first place, while Vaishnavi Rajendra Sharma of Class 9 secured second place. In the senior slogan competition, Aradhana Nishad stood first, Shatakshi Tripathi of Class 10 came second and Vaishnavi Mishra of Class 11 secured third place.
The winners were felicitated for their performances. Food items were distributed among all students at the conclusion of the programme, which reinforced the values of patriotism, social responsibility and commitment to the ideals of the two national leaders.
