Lucknow: Following Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s instructions to officials to keep drainage systems working during continuous rain, Mandi Director Jitendra Pratap Singh made a surprise inspection of Dubagga Mandi on Saturday. After two days of steady rain, he found waterlogging at some places in the mandi premises and arranged drainage on the spot.
Reprimand for lax cleaning
The director personally checked the condition of the drains. Finding that some had not been cleaned properly, he reprimanded the Mandi Secretary and ordered immediate cleaning. Drains were then cleared in his presence, restoring the blocked flow of water.
Directions to officials
Given the continuous rain, the director instructed that the drainage system in the mandi premises be monitored regularly. Necessary arrangements should be made in advance at spots prone to waterlogging, drains should not be allowed to fill with garbage or silt, and enough sanitation workers should be deployed during rain.
Warning of action
He warned the Mandi Secretary that responsibility would be fixed and action taken if negligence in drainage and cleaning is found again. He also directed regular monitoring of the contractor engaged for cleaning work, with action as per rules if lapses are found.
The director said drainage and cleaning arrangements must remain functional at all times so that farmers and traders face no difficulty moving around or doing their work in the mandi during rain. Officials, he added, should inspect the premises regularly and monitor the arrangements themselves.
