Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Basic Education and Atrauli MLA Sandeep Singh has congratulated Aligarh’s Gulveer Singh on winning the silver medal in the men’s 10,000 metres at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, describing the achievement as a moment of immense pride for Uttar Pradesh and the nation.
Gulveer Singh, a former student of the Composite Upper Primary School in Sirsa village of Bijauli Block, Aligarh, delivered an outstanding performance on the international stage to secure India’s silver medal in the prestigious long-distance event.
Extending his heartfelt congratulations, Sandeep Singh said Gulveer’s remarkable feat reflects the values of hard work, discipline and unwavering dedication. He noted that the athlete’s success has brought honour to Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh and the entire country by proudly carrying the Indian tricolour on the global stage.
The minister said Gulveer Singh’s achievement would serve as a source of inspiration for millions of students and young sportspersons across the state, encouraging them to pursue excellence through perseverance and commitment.
Highlighting the state’s efforts to promote sports, Sandeep Singh said the Uttar Pradesh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has been consistently working to strengthen the sporting ecosystem by providing world-class infrastructure, advanced training facilities and comprehensive support to athletes.
He added that the government has implemented several effective policies aimed at expanding sports infrastructure, improving coaching and training opportunities, and recognising and encouraging talented athletes. These initiatives, he said, are now yielding positive results at both the national and international levels, with sportspersons from Uttar Pradesh bringing laurels to the state and the country.
