PGI Police Arrest Murder Accused in Abhishek Rawat Killing Case

One More Accused Sent to Judicial Custody; Search Continues for Remaining Suspects

Lucknow: The PGI Police in Lucknow have arrested another accused allegedly involved in the murder of a young man following a violent attack linked to an old rivalry. The arrest comes as part of an ongoing investigation into the killing of Abhishek Rawat, who succumbed to his injuries after being assaulted by a group of individuals.

The action was carried out under the directions of Lucknow Police Commissioner Amarendra Kumar Sengar and Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime & Headquarters) Aparna Kumar as part of the commissionerate’s campaign against crime and criminal elements. The operation was supervised by Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Amit Kumar Anand, Additional DCP (South) Rallapalli Vamsath Kumar, and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Gosainganj, Rishabh Yadav, and led by PGI Station House Officer Dhirendra Kumar Singh.

Case Registered Following Victim’s Death

According to police officials, the case was registered on the complaint of Pushpa Rawat, wife of the late Vinod Kumar Rawat and a resident of Jagat Khera village in Kalli Paschim area of Lucknow.

The complaint alleged that on July 3, 2026, her son Abhishek Rawat was called to Sarathua village, where he was allegedly attacked by several individuals using sharp-edged weapons, sticks, iron rods, and a large iron spatula-like implement. Abhishek sustained serious injuries and later died during treatment.

Based on the complaint, a case was registered at PGI Police Station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against multiple named accused and other unidentified persons.

Police said that the principal accused, Akhilesh Rawat, had already been arrested and sent to judicial custody on July 4, 2026.

Arrest Made After Analysis of CCTV and Electronic Evidence

Following the incident, special police teams were formed to trace the remaining suspects. Investigators analyzed CCTV footage, examined electronic evidence, and conducted extensive inquiries in the area.

During the course of the investigation, the involvement of another suspect came to light. Acting on a tip-off from an informer, police arrested Subhash Chandra (31), son of Ram Khilawan and a resident of Sarathua village under PGI Police Station limits, from the Kisan Path Underpass area on July 6.

The accused is being sent to judicial custody, while further legal proceedings and investigation continue.

Motive Linked to Old Enmity

During questioning, the arrested accused reportedly told investigators that the incident stemmed from a longstanding rivalry and a dispute that escalated into a violent confrontation. Police said the victim suffered severe injuries during the clash, ultimately resulting in his death.

Investigation Ongoing

The case has been registered as Case Crime No. 355/2026 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to murder and criminal acts.

Police officials said efforts are continuing to identify and arrest the remaining accused named in the case. Further investigation is underway to establish the precise sequence of events and the role of each individual involved in the fatal assault.

The arrest is being viewed as an important step in the investigation as the Lucknow Police continue their efforts to bring all those responsible for the murder to justice.
