Lucknow: GD Goenka Public School, Lucknow successfully conducted a Civil Defence Mock Drill and Evacuation Exercise on 3 July 2026 with the objective of enhancing disaster preparedness and ensuring the safety of students and staff during emergencies. The drill was organized as a part of the school’s commitment to creating awareness and developing the ability to respond effectively to unforeseen situations such as fire, earthquakes, and other disasters.
The programme commenced with an awareness presentation, educating students about various natural and man-made disasters and the appropriate safety measures to be adopted during emergencies. Students were sensitized to remain alert, calm, disciplined, and responsible while following evacuation procedures to prevent panic and stampede-like situations.
Prior to the drill, detailed instructions and precautionary measures were shared with all teaching and non-teaching staff. Faculty members were briefed regarding their individual roles and responsibilities to ensure a coordinated and efficient evacuation process.
As soon as the emergency alarm was activated, students began evacuating the school building in an orderly manner under the guidance of teachers, support staff, and members of the Student Council. Staff members were strategically positioned at designated locations throughout the campus to guide students towards the safest evacuation routes.
The entire school building was evacuated successfully within 7 minutes. Students proceeded in orderly lines to their pre-designated assembly areas, where separate locations had been allocated for junior and senior sections. Once all students reached the assembly points, class teachers conducted a headcount to verify attendance and ensure that every student had safely evacuated the building.
The mock drill simulated an effective emergency response system, emphasizing quick decision-making, coordination, discipline, and life safety measures. A review session followed the exercise, during which observations were discussed, strengths were acknowledged, and areas requiring further improvement were identified.

In addition to the evacuation drill, a comprehensive Fire Safety Training Session was conducted for all teaching staff, administrative staff, security personnel, Security guards, and housekeeping staff. The session focused on the proper operation and effective use of fire extinguishers and other fire safety equipment during emergency situations. Participants were also trained in basic emergency response techniques, evacuation procedures, and methods of assisting injured individuals safely.
The fire safety training session was conducted by Vishnu, who demonstrated the correct use of fire extinguishers and explained essential fire prevention and response techniques.
The successful execution of the mock drill reflected the school’s commitment to ensuring the highest standards of safety and preparedness. Such regular exercises help instill confidence, responsibility, and presence of mind among students and staff, enabling them to respond effectively during real-life emergencies.
At GD Goenka Public School, Lucknow, our primary objective is to spread awareness, build preparedness, foster courage and confidence, and strengthen the ability of both students and faculty members to take immediate and appropriate action during any emergency.
