Yogi Government Launches Major Drive to Preserve Ancient Manuscripts Across Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow: In a major initiative to protect India’s intellectual and cultural heritage, the Government of Uttar Pradesh under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath has accelerated the preservation and digitisation of ancient manuscripts through the “Gyan Bharatam Mission.”

The large-scale campaign aims to identify, conserve, and digitally archive rare handwritten manuscripts preserved in temples, monasteries, libraries, educational institutions, and private collections across the state. During the ongoing survey, thousands of valuable manuscripts related to religion, philosophy, Ayurveda, astrology, literature, music, and history have already been identified.

Historic centres such as Varanasi, Ayodhya, and Rampur have yielded some of the most significant discoveries, including centuries-old Sanskrit, Persian, Arabic, and Hindi manuscripts.

Special survey teams formed in collaboration with universities, research institutions, and libraries are reaching villages and heritage sites to trace rare documents. The mission also focuses on scientific preservation, cataloguing, and digital access, ensuring that India’s traditional knowledge and cultural legacy remain accessible to researchers and future generations.
