Prof. J. P. Pandey Reappointed as Vice-Chancellor of AKTU for Second Term

Lucknow: Dr A P J Abdul Kalam Technical University has once again entrusted J P Pandey with the responsibility of serving as Vice-Chancellor, following an official order issued by Raj Bhavan Uttar Pradesh. According to the notification, Prof. Pandey will continue in the role for another three-year term from the date of appointment. The order was approved by Anandiben Patel in her capacity as Governor and Chancellor of the university.

During his previous tenure, Prof. Pandey played a significant role in transforming the university’s academic and institutional profile. Under his leadership, the university achieved a historic milestone by securing NAAC accreditation for the first time in its 25-year history. AKTU received an impressive A+ grade in its very first assessment, significantly enhancing its academic reputation and opening new opportunities for institutional growth.

Prof. Pandey introduced several reforms aimed at improving employability, research and innovation. The university launched interdisciplinary B.Tech programmes in emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and VLSI, which received strong response from students. The institution has also accelerated the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020 by introducing major-minor degree options and revising curricula in line with modern educational standards.

To promote advanced technical education, AKTU also introduced minor degree programmes in space and quantum technologies. Emphasis was placed on skill development through workshops, training sessions and stronger industry collaboration, helping students secure placements in leading companies through campus recruitment drives.

The university further strengthened its innovation ecosystem by establishing One District One Incubation Centres and creating a ₹100 crore innovation fund to support startups and entrepreneurship among students. Initiatives such as the Student Startup Award and the Faculty Student Startup Policy were also introduced during his tenure.

In the field of research and infrastructure, AKTU established the Kalam Patent Centre and became home to Uttar Pradesh’s first Infosys Makers Lab. Facilities like the AICTE IDEA Lab and Lab on Wheels initiative have also encouraged research and innovation among students and schoolchildren alike.

Prof. Pandey said the university will continue focusing on employment-oriented education, emerging technologies and skill development over the next three years. He added that efforts will be made to develop AKTU as a hub for Artificial Intelligence and establish Centres of Excellence in various advanced technologies, while also creating a dedicated Skill Development Centre within the university.
