Sujoy Mukherjee’s Short Film ‘Hunar’ Continues Award-Winning Journey with 26 Festival Honours

Mumbai: Hunar, directed by Sujoy Mukherjee and starring Rohit Roy, is steadily emerging as one of the most celebrated short films on the festival circuit this year. The film recently added more accolades to its growing list of achievements at the Cinedreams International Film Festival 2026 held in Mumbai.

At the festival, Rohit Roy received the Best Actor award for his impactful performance, while Sujoy Mukherjee was honoured with the Best Director award. With these latest wins, Hunar has now crossed the milestone of 26 awards at film festivals across India and internationally.

Earlier, the film had won the Best Social Film award at the 16th Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival in Delhi. Over the past few months, the short film has received appreciation at festivals in cities including Ahmedabad, Nashik, Kolkata and Mumbai, reflecting its growing popularity among audiences and critics alike.

Also featuring Madhurima Tuli and Vidhaan Sharma, Hunar explores an emotionally relatable social theme — the pressure many children face when forced into careers and ambitions chosen by others, often at the cost of their own dreams and talents.

The film has resonated with viewers because of its simple yet heartfelt storytelling. Instead of relying on excessive drama, it presents its message through honest performances and emotionally grounded moments, making it widely relatable for families and young audiences.

Sujoy Mukherjee comes from a renowned film family. He is the grandson of legendary filmmaker Sashadhar Mukherjee and son of actor Joy Mukherjee. Apart from filmmaking, he currently manages Filmalaya Studios in Mumbai.

Before moving behind the camera, Sujoy also acted in films such as Mehboob Mere Mehboob, Hum Hain Kamaal Ke and Pyar Pyar. His earlier short film Ab Mujhe Udna Hai had also received widespread recognition, winning 39 awards on the festival circuit.

With its strong performances, emotional depth and socially relevant theme, Hunar continues to leave a lasting impact and strengthen its reputation as a meaningful cinematic success story.
