Several Initiatives Taken to Increase Metro Ridership and Promote Public Transport Usage; Additional Parking and Metro Feeder Routes Finalised for Lucknow, Kanpur and Agra
New parking locations of about 71 in lucknow, 24 in Kanpur and 19 in Agra finalised which are under tendering by Nagar Nigam
Lucknow: In line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the directions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, emphasis laid on strengthening last-mile connectivity and public awareness to promote Metro and public transport usage.
Under the inspiration of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi and in accordance with the directions of Hon’ble Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, an important meeting was held in Lucknow today at the Commissioner’s Conference Hall under the chairmanship of Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant. The meeting focused on improving connectivity between Metro and city transport services, making public transportation more convenient and efficient, and enhancing passenger facilities.
The following key points were discussed to further strengthen Metro services and public transport integration:
• New circular routes for auto-rickshaws and tempos around various Metro stations were finalised to strengthen feeder connectivity and improve access to Metro services. A total of 29 new routes in Lucknow, 50 routes in Kanpur, and 27 routes in Agra were identified and approved. In addition, new designated auto and tempo stops along these routes were also finalised to ensure smoother passenger movement and better integration with Metro stations.

• The Government decided to launch a comprehensive public awareness campaign to promote the use of Metro and other public transport services. The campaign will be carried out through social media platforms, digital display boards installed across the city, and other public communication channels to encourage citizens to adopt sustainable and convenient public transportation options.
• Shuttle bus services connecting major government residential colonies and offices with nearby Metro stations were also discussed and approved for phased implementation. The initiative aims to provide seamless first and last-mile connectivity for government employees and residents, thereby increasing the convenience and accessibility of Metro services.
• Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation is also planning to strengthen last-mile connectivity through app-based mobility aggregators such as UTU Mobility.The corporation already has tie-ups with leading mobility service providers including Ola, Uber, and Rapido to provide convenient last-mile transport solutions for Metro commuters.
The meeting was attended by senior State Government officials and officials of Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation. During the meeting, Managing Director of Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation, Mr. Sushil Kumar, emphasized that strengthening last-mile connectivity is essential for making Metro services more accessible and user-friendly. He stated that adequate parking facilities around Metro stations are necessary to provide safe parking for commuters’ private vehicles and to encourage greater use of Metro services.
