Delhi | Anugraha Narayana Das, a 1991-batch officer of the Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS), has taken charge as the Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA) with effect from May 1, 2026.
Bringing over three decades of experience in defence financial management and public administration, he stepped into the top position overseeing India’s defence accounting and financial systems.
Academic and Professional Background
Das is an alumnus of Utkal University and ICPE, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. Over the course of his career, he has also undergone advanced training at premier global institutions, including IIM Bengaluru and Duke University, further strengthening his expertise in governance and financial management.
Extensive Experience in Defence Administration
During his distinguished service, Das has led several key initiatives in procurement policy, audit systems, budgeting, and expenditure monitoring within the defence sector.
He has held multiple important positions across the Government of India, including roles in the Ministry of Defence, Service Headquarters, and various field formations.

His notable assignments include:
- Director in the Ministry of Water Resources
- Additional Financial Adviser and Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Defence
- Principal Integrated Financial Adviser at Army Headquarters
- Special Controller General of Defence Accounts at CGDA Headquarters
Leadership Role at CGDA
As Controller General of Defence Accounts, Das is expected to play a key role in strengthening financial transparency, improving audit mechanisms, and enhancing efficiency in defence expenditure management.
His appointment comes at a time when the defence sector continues to expand its focus on modernisation, accountability, and fiscal discipline.
