Patna / Lucknow: It is with deep sorrow that the passing of Ram Yash Singh, retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 1985 Bihar cadre, has been announced. He breathed his last at the age of 83 on 27 April 2026 following a sudden demise.
A highly respected and disciplined police officer, Singh was widely known for his unwavering commitment to duty, professionalism, and dignified service throughout his distinguished career in the Bihar Police.
Distinguished Police Career
During his service tenure, Ram Yash Singh held command responsibilities across several key districts, including East Champaran, West Champaran, Jehanabad, and Godda (now in Jharkhand). He played a significant role in strengthening law and order and addressing crime-related challenges in these sensitive regions.
Recognising his exceptional courage and gallantry in service, he was awarded the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry, one of the highest honours conferred upon police officers in India.
He retired from the position of Deputy Inspector General (Intelligence), Bihar Police, after a long and meritorious career marked by integrity, firmness, and professionalism.
Family and Personal Life
Ram Yash Singh was the father of Amitabh Yash, senior IPS officer and Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order/Special Task Force), Uttar Pradesh Police. He is survived by his wife, Geeta Singh, and family members.

Service Beyond Retirement
Even after retirement, Singh continued his engagement in public service. He practised as an advocate at the Patna High Court, where he remained actively involved in assisting and serving people through the legal profession.
