Lucknow: The Department of Zoology at University of Lucknow successfully concluded a three-day workshop on “Artificial Intelligence in Life Sciences,” held from April 16 to 18, 2026, at the IWS facility in the ONGC campus. The programme was organised in collaboration with MakeIntern and the E-Cell of Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad.
The workshop was conducted under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jai Prakash Saini, with guidance from Dean of the Faculty of Science, Prof. Sheila Mishra, and Head of the Zoology Department, Prof. Amita Kanojia. Prof. Monisha Banerjee served as the faculty coordinator, while Dr. Hadiya Hussain and Dr. Nidhi Dwivedi were the co-coordinators. Dr. Hadiya Hussain also efficiently anchored the sessions throughout the workshop.
A key highlight of the programme was the hands-on training sessions led by Dr. Puneet Kakar from an Italy-based institute of technology. Participants were introduced to practical applications of artificial intelligence in life sciences, gaining valuable exposure to emerging tools and techniques at the intersection of biology and technology.
The workshop saw active participation from students, who engaged in interactive sessions, practical exercises, and discussions aimed at enhancing their understanding of AI-driven research in biological sciences.

At the conclusion of the programme, five participants—Vedanta Singh, Vivaswan Pandey, Shreya Prakash, Mahima Sharan, and Ruchi Sharma—were selected for the zonal championship. Akshita Pandey and Athira Jain were placed on the waiting list.
The event concluded on a successful note, equipping participants with practical insights into the integration of artificial intelligence with life sciences, and reinforcing the university’s commitment to promoting interdisciplinary learning and innovation.
