Lucknow: The Christian Community in the city of Lucknow is preparing to celebrate the most important feast of their faith EASTER , Feast of the Resurrection of Lord Jesus Christ!

The HOLY WEEK culminating in EASTER began on Palm Sunday, on 29th March 2026, when Christians took out a procession carrying Palms or Olive Branches in memory of the final entry of Lord Jesus into Jerusalem before his Crucifixion.

The traditional Easter Triduum (three days) before the feast begins on Holy Thursday, also called ‘Maundy Thursday’ on 2nd April. A Holy Eucharist (Holy Mass) will be celebrated in the evening, during which Bishop Gerald John Mathias will wash the feet of 12 Church members, after the example of Lord Jesus Christ, who did this act of love and humility before his own crucifixion.

The Catholic Church also considers this day as the day of the institution of Catholic Priesthood and of the Holy Eucharist, celebrated by Priests every day in their life.

Good Friday will be celebrated on April 3, 2026 to commemorate the crucifixion and death of Lord Jesus Christ on the Cross for the salvation of mankind. The main ceremonies are to be held in the evening hours, at 4.00 pm, with the ‘Way of the Cross’ and the ceremony of the ‘Passion of Lord Jesus Christ’. They are held in the evening hours, at 4.00 p.m., to correspond to the time when Lord Jesus died on the Cross.

Holy Saturday, April 4th 2026, is a day of silence, hope and expectation for the Christian Community as it awaits Jesus’ Resurrection. While the morning is spent in silent prayer, the Solemn Easter Vigil will be held at 10.30 on Saturday night in all the Churches in the city, especially in the main Church of the Community, St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Hazratganj. There will be Divine Services in the various Churches of the city in the morning on 5th April 2026, Easter Sunday.
