Women’s ASMITA League to be Held at K.D. Singh Babu Stadium on International Women’s Day

Lucknow: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, women’s athletics competitions under the ASMITA League will be organised in Lucknow on March 8, 2026. The event will be held at the K. D. Singh Babu Stadium under the guidance of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Sports Authority of India (SAI).

The competition is being coordinated by Rishi Kumar, hockey coach at the National Centre of Excellence–SAI, along with the Deputy Director of Mera Yuva Bharat. More than 1,000 female participants are expected to take part in the event.

The ASMITA (Achieving Sports Milestone by Inspiring Women Through Action) League aims to encourage women and girls to participate in sports and promote athletic excellence among them. The competition will feature 100 metres, 200 metres, and 400 metres races across three age categories: Under-13, 13–18 years, and above 18 years, making a total of nine race events. In addition, an engagement activity such as a tug-of-war competition will also be organised for participants.

To ensure the successful conduct of the programme, the district administration is coordinating with several departments. Support will be taken from institutions including ITI Aliganj, the District Institute of Education and Training, the Higher Education Department, National Service Scheme (NSS), National Cadet Corps (NCC), and Bharat Scouts and Guides to encourage maximum participation from girls and women.

Medical arrangements at the venue will be managed by the Health Department with the deployment of ambulances and a team of doctors, while the police department will provide necessary security arrangements. The Regional Sports Officer will appoint referees and coaches to oversee the technical conduct of the competitions.

The district administration has appealed to schools, colleges, and sports institutions to encourage girls and women to register on the ASMITA portal and participate in the competition, making the initiative for women’s empowerment through sports a grand success.
