First State-Level ITI Sports Competition Concludes in Lucknow

Lucknow: The first-ever State-Level Sports Competition for Government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) concluded with a grand closing ceremony at K. D. Singh Babu Stadium, marking a major initiative to promote sports culture among ITI trainees in Uttar Pradesh.

The event was organized under the guidance of Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Vocational Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Kapil Dev Agarwal. Principal Secretary Dr. Hari Om and Director of Training Abhishek Singh awarded trophies, certificates and medals to the winners during the ceremony.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Hari Om said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Minister Kapil Dev Agarwal, such a state-level sports event for ITI trainees was organized for the first time. He emphasized that along with skill development, physical fitness is equally important, as healthy trainees perform better in industries. He added that private ITIs would also be included in future editions to expand the competition’s reach.

Over the past four months, district and divisional-level selection rounds saw participation from around 4,000 trainees across 12 sports disciplines, with nearly 600 advancing to the state-level finals. The three-day event witnessed enthusiastic participation from both male and female trainees, fostering discipline, confidence and improved institutional engagement.

Director Abhishek Singh noted that the competition will now become an annual event, with plans for further enhancement. Senior officials including Director (Technical) D.K. Singh, Joint Director SCVT Mayank Gangwar and Raj Kumar Yadav, Nodal Principal of Government ITI Aliganj, played key roles in the successful organization of the event.

The grand finale highlighted the state government’s commitment to integrating fitness with skill development, giving ITI sports a new identity in Uttar Pradesh.
