Ram Temple Safe, Caller in Custody After Late-Night Threat

Ayodhya: A bomb threat targeting the Ram Temple in Ayodhya on Saturday night triggered panic and prompted an immediate security response, leading to heightened vigilance across the temple town ahead of Republic Day. Police confirmed that the individual who made the threat call has been detained and a detailed investigation is underway.

According to officials, the threat was received around 10:30 pm via a call to the emergency helpline Dial 112, in which the caller claimed that an explosion would take place at the Ram Temple. Acting swiftly on the alert, local police and security agencies intensified security measures in and around the temple complex.

Patrolling was increased across Ayodhya, particularly at entry and exit points of the Ram Temple premises. Security personnel carried out thorough checks to rule out any immediate danger, while bomb disposal squads and specialised response teams were placed on standby as a precaution.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and DIG Ayodhya, Gaurav Grover, said the caller was identified as a resident of Gonda district and was taken into custody shortly after the call. Preliminary inquiries suggested that the individual may be mentally unstable, though officials emphasised that a comprehensive assessment is being conducted before reaching any final conclusion.

“The youth, identified as Ram Karan, was reportedly in an intoxicated state and has been undergoing mental health treatment for the past three years,” a senior police officer said, adding that all aspects of the case are being carefully examined.

Police officials said Ayodhya police are jointly interrogating the detained individual along with intelligence agencies to ascertain the motive behind the threat and to verify whether it had any genuine security implications. “So far, no explosive or suspicious material has been found in or around the temple premises,” an official confirmed.

Authorities appealed to the public to remain calm and avoid spreading rumours, reiterating that the security of the Ram Temple and Ayodhya city remains a top priority. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing investigation.

The incident comes amid heightened security sensitivity in Ayodhya. Earlier this month, security forces were put on alert after a man from Kashmir allegedly attempted to offer namaz in a restricted area of the Ram Janmabhoomi complex. He was detained for questioning and later released after verification.

Police said strict vigilance will continue in Ayodhya, especially in view of upcoming national events and the steady flow of devotees to the temple.
