Two Youths Arrested for Illegal Ganja Trade, 2.9 kg Contraband Seized in Lucknow

Lucknow | In a crackdown against illegal narcotics trafficking, the Vikas Nagar police team under the East Zone of the Lucknow Police Commissionerate arrested two youths involved in the illicit sale of ganja. The police recovered a total of 2.9 kilograms of illegal ganja, 85 small packets and ₹2,040 in cash from their possession.

According to the police, the arrests were made on January 23, 2026, following a tip-off received from an informer and based on ground-level and technical evidence. The accused were apprehended near Sai Park, Sabauli, in the Vikas Nagar police station area. The arrested individuals have been identified as Deepu Maurya alias Dala (24) and Vikas Rawat alias Dhoni (21).

Police officials said that 1.5 kg of ganja and ₹1,180 in cash were recovered from Deepu Maurya, while 1.4 kg of ganja and ₹860 in cash were seized from Vikas Rawat. On the basis of the arrest and recovery, a case has been registered at Vikas Nagar police station under Case Crime No. 17/2026, Section 8/20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Both accused were produced before the court and subsequently sent to judicial custody at Lucknow District Jail.

Criminal History Revealed

During the investigation, it emerged that accused Deepu Maurya alias Dala has a prior criminal record. Previous cases registered against him include Case Crime No. 355/2017 under Section 379 IPC at Vikas Nagar police station, Case Crime No. 109/2019 under Section 8/21 NDPS Act at the same police station, and Case Crime No. 359/2019 under Sections 279/338 IPC at Gudamba police station. The current case under the NDPS Act has now been added to this list.

Meanwhile, accused Vikas Rawat alias Dhoni has been booked in the present case under Case Crime No. 17/2026, Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act.

Police Team Involved

The operation was carried out by a police team led by Station House Officer Alok Kumar Singh, along with Sub-Inspectors Jitendra Kumar Singh (Chowki In-charge, Sabzi Mandi), Shiv Singh Yadav (Chowki In-charge, Mama Line Chauraha), Mohammad Yaseen (Chowki In-charge, Power House), Bhanu Pratap Singh (Chowki In-charge, Lekhraj Panna), Atul Kumar (Chowki In-charge, Mini Stadium), Head Constable Anuj Kumar and Constable Raghavendra Yadav.

Police officials stated that the accused had been involved in illegal ganja sales in the area for a long time. Further legal action and investigation into the supply chain are currently underway.
