Lucknow: In a significant step towards strengthening digital service delivery in rural areas, the Uttar Pradesh government under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has launched Aadhaar-related services at the gram panchayat level in the state capital, Lucknow. The initiative aims to ensure that villagers can now access essential Aadhaar services within their own villages, eliminating the need to travel to urban centres.
As part of the rollout, Aadhaar services have been successfully started in Bhatgawan Pandey Gram Panchayat of Sarojininagar block and Sairpur Gram Panchayat of Chinhat block. More than 40 villagers have already availed Aadhaar-related services at these centres, marking a positive response and easing access to key identity services for rural residents.
This initiative is being implemented in a phased manner. In the first phase, Aadhaar services will be extended to 1,000 gram panchayats across the state. Subsequently, the facility will be expanded to all 57,694 gram panchayats in Uttar Pradesh, making it one of the largest grassroots-level digital service delivery networks in the country.
To ensure effective implementation, the Panchayati Raj Department has launched a comprehensive training programme for panchayat assistants. Over 800 panchayat assistants have already received training, while training for the remaining staff is currently underway.
Panchayati Raj Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar described the initiative as a major step towards simplifying the lives of rural citizens, noting that it will save time and resources while empowering panchayats to function more efficiently.
Panchayati Raj Department Director Amit Kumar Singh said the department is committed to digitally empowering gram panchayats. He added that the launch of Aadhaar services at the village level would help transform panchayats into citizen service centres, advancing the goals of Digital India and empowered local self-governance.
