CM Yogi Adityanath Presents Pink Meenakari Replica of Shri Ram Temple to PM Narendra Modi

New Delhi/Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath presented Prime Minister Narendra Modi with an exquisite replica of the Shri Ram Temple, crafted in the traditional Pink Meenakari art form, during a meeting in New Delhi. The gift symbolized a blend of Sanatan faith, Kashi’s centuries-old craftsmanship, and the spirit of ‘Vocal for Local’.

The intricately designed replica, created by master craftsman Kunj Bihari Singh, represents the pinnacle of GI-tagged Pink Meenakari, a heritage art form associated with Varanasi. The artwork took 108 days to complete and comprises 108 individual components, reflecting the sacred significance of the number 108 in Hindu tradition. During its creation, artisans continuously chanted the Ram dhun for the entire duration.

A Masterpiece of Craftsmanship

The replica has been crafted using two kilograms of silver and gold, embellished with diamonds, and features symbolic elements such as golden idols of Lord Ram, lotus motifs, and the bow and arrow. Diamonds adorn the four spires of the temple model, while internal illumination enhances its architectural detailing, bringing spiritual symbolism to life through fine artistry.

From GI Tag to ODOP Recognition

Pink Meenakari received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag, formally recognizing its originality and heritage. Under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s leadership, the craft was included in the state’s One District One Product (ODOP) scheme, providing institutional support to artisans in Kashi. Through training programs, design innovation, government exhibitions, and its use as official protocol gifts, the art form has gained new markets and national recognition, emerging as a distinctive brand identity of Uttar Pradesh.

Cultural Diplomacy and Global Outreach

Both Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath have actively promoted Pink Meenakari as a tool of cultural diplomacy. In 2021, Prime Minister Modi gifted a Pink Meenakari chess set to former US Vice President Kamala Harris during his visit to the United States. CM Yogi has also presented Pink Meenakari artifacts to prominent personalities, including Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan, actor Rajinikanth, and astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla, significantly enhancing the craft’s national and international visibility.

The growing demand for Pink Meenakari has also contributed to women empowerment, with large numbers of women receiving training under government-supported initiatives, reinforcing the goals of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

A Legacy Since the 16th Century

Pink Meenakari was introduced to India in the 16th century and gradually became synonymous with Kashi’s cultural identity. The intricate process involves preparing colors from metal oxides and applying them exclusively on pure silver and gold, followed by firing at temperatures of around 800 degrees Celsius. Despite its complexity and labor-intensive nature, artisan families have preserved this tradition for generations, keeping the craft alive in both its classical and contemporary forms.

The presentation of the Pink Meenakari Ram Temple replica stands as a powerful tribute to India’s living heritage, combining devotion, craftsmanship, and cultural pride on a national stage.
