Lucknow: In a significant move towards making Uttar Pradesh plastic-free, the Yogi Adityanath government has decided to replace plastic polybags with organic pots made from cow dung in large-scale plantation campaigns. The initiative, aligned with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision of environmental protection and self-reliant gaushalas, will be implemented through the Uttar Pradesh Gau Seva Commission.
Under the plan, around five crore cow-dung-based organic pots will be produced this year across nearly 7,000 gaushalas in the state. The manufacturing process will involve women self-help groups and young entrepreneurs in every district, creating substantial local employment opportunities and additional income avenues for cattle rearers.

Gau Seva Commission Chairman Shyam Bihari Gupta said the initiative will reduce plastic waste, enhance soil fertility, and strengthen cow conservation efforts. The biodegradable pots naturally merge with the soil after plantation, ensuring better root growth and nutrient supply for saplings, thereby improving survival rates.

Officials said the initiative will also encourage participation from social organisations, volunteers, and citizens, transforming the plastic-free Uttar Pradesh mission into a mass movement focused on sustainable development.
