Urban Development and Energy Minister A.K. Sharma Reviews Magh Mela Preparations Through Virtual Meeting

Lucknow | Uttar Pradesh’s Urban Development and Energy Minister  A.K. Sharma conducted a virtual review meeting from the Sangam Auditorium to assess preparations for the smooth, safe and well-organised conduct of the Magh Mela. During the meeting, he issued clear and firm directions to concerned departments to ensure that all arrangements meet the highest standards.

 Sharma stated that the Magh Mela is a symbol of the state’s faith, administrative efficiency and governance capability, and therefore, any form of negligence or disorder will not be tolerated. He instructed officials to ensure robust drainage systems, uninterrupted electricity supply, availability of clean drinking water and an efficient sanitation mechanism across the mela area. He also stressed that not only the mela premises but the entire urban area should remain clean, with no garbage heaps visible, and that sanitation arrangements must be continuously monitored.

Emphasising the importance of power infrastructure, the Energy Minister said that the electrical arrangements made during the previous Mahakumbh serve as a benchmark and similar or better levels of safe, reliable and uninterrupted electricity supply must be ensured for the Magh Mela. He directed the Director of Electrical Safety to strictly enforce all safety norms throughout the mela area. Instructions were also issued to provide immediate electricity connections in newly developed parking zones.

Sharma further directed the Municipal Commissioner to ensure the availability of an adequate number of night shelters (rain baseras), proper arrangements for bonfires, continuous cleanliness and sufficient signage for easy movement and guidance of devotees. He underlined that ensuring convenience and safety for pilgrims should remain the administration’s top priority.

During the meeting, the minister reviewed the preparations in detail with Mela Officer Rishiraj and instructed that the government should be informed immediately in case of any additional requirements or assistance. He reiterated that the state government is fully committed to providing all necessary support at every level to ensure the successful organisation of the Magh Mela.

Officials from the Power Department, Jal Nigam and Electrical Safety Department briefed the minister on their preparedness during the meeting. Senior officials including Principal Secretary P. Guru Prasad, Secretary Ajay Shukla, Special Secretary Ravindra Kumar, Managing Director Pankaj Kumar, Additional Director  Ritu Suhas, along with other concerned officers, joined the meeting through virtual mode.
