New Delhi/Lucknow: As preparations for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections gather momentum, political discussions have intensified over the possible leadership role of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in the Congress party’s campaign in the state.
Recent high-level meetings at the Congress headquarters and images shared on social media have fuelled speculation that the party may once again rely on Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to spearhead its electoral strategy in Uttar Pradesh. The Congress has already decided to contest the proposed panchayat elections in 2026 independently, following a meeting chaired by party president Mallikarjun Kharge.
Recently a review meeting was held at the Congress headquarters attended by MP and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, UP Congress President Ajay Rai, and state in-charge Avinash Pandey. The meeting focused on organisational preparedness and future electoral strategy in the state.
The Congress party’s official handle on X shared four photographs from the meeting, showing Organisation General Secretary K.C. Venugopal and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra reviewing the functioning of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee. The post noted the presence of senior leaders including Avinash Pandey, Ajay Rai, and Aradhana Mishra ‘Mona’, the Congress Legislature Party leader in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly.
According to party sources, detailed discussions were held on strengthening the organisation at the grassroots level, electoral planning, and coordination among party units. The meeting, along with the images released, has sparked renewed political debate over Congress’s leadership strategy in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the crucial 2027 polls.
While the party has not made any formal announcement regarding leadership for the assembly elections, the developments indicate that the Congress is actively exploring options to revitalise its presence in the state.
