Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government is preparing to further strengthen its Mission Shakti initiative aimed at enhancing women’s safety, dignity, and self-reliance. Under the proposed Mission Shakti 5.0, 1,600 centers across the state are expected to receive additional resources in 2026 to improve the prevention of crimes against women and ensure rapid assistance to victims.
According to the government plan, each Mission Shakti center will be provided with four two-wheelers and one mobile handset. This will involve the procurement of a total of 6,400 scooters and 1,600 mobile phones, with an estimated expenditure of ₹67 crore. The proposal is set to be submitted to the state administration shortly, and procurement will commence once the budget is approved.
ADG Padmaja Chauhan, the nodal officer for Women and Child Safety, stated that following the directives of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Mission Shakti campaign continues to expand. The availability of these resources will enhance the reach of Mission Shakti teams to villages and neighborhoods, enabling faster response to women’s complaints.
Chauhan highlighted that the provision of two-wheelers will ensure quick deployment of female staff and police teams in emergency situations. The mobile handsets will facilitate real-time monitoring, complaint registration, and coordination with higher authorities.
Mission Shakti centers serve as crucial hubs for assistance, counseling, and awareness about women’s rights. They offer services such as helpline support, legal aid, medical assistance, counseling, and rehabilitation all under one roof. The addition of these resources is expected to significantly improve both operational efficiency and monitoring capacity.
The state has already implemented several measures for women’s safety, including Anti-Romeo Squads, Women Helpline 1090, 112 emergency services, Pink Booths, Women Desks, and Fast-Track Courts. With the proposed upgrades, the functioning and response mechanism of Mission Shakti centers are set to become even more robust.
