Washington: Apple has appointed Amar Subramanya as the new Vice President of Artificial Intelligence (AI). He will be replacing John Giannandrea. According to Tim Cook, AI is a key part of the company’s strategy. Subramanya graduated from Bangalore University and held significant positions at Google, where he served as the Engineering Head for the Gemini Assistant. He will now report to Craig Federighi at Apple.
Apple has made a significant change in its Artificial Intelligence department, appointing Amar Subramanya as the new Vice President of AI. Subramanya will take the place of John Giannandrea, who has long been Apple’s Head of AI. It is reported that Giannandrea will remain in an advisory role until next spring and will retire thereafter.

Who is Amar Subramanya?
Amar Subramanya’s education began in India, where he graduated from Bangalore University in 2001 with a degree in Electrical, Electronics, and Communication Engineering. Following his graduation, he started his career as a Software Engineer at IBM.
In 2005, he began his PhD at the University of Washington, during which he also worked at Microsoft as an intern and visiting researcher.

After completing his PhD, Subramanya’s career shifted to Google, where he joined as a Staff Research Scientist at Google Mountain View. After eight years, he was promoted, subsequently becoming a Principal Engineer, and then, in 2019, the VP of Engineering. During his tenure at Google, he notably served as the Engineering Head for the Gemini Assistant. Following a long 16-year career, he briefly served as the Corporate Vice President (CVP) of AI at Microsoft in July.
Subramanya will now report to Craig Federighi at Apple, who is the company’s software head and manages critical responsibilities such as Foundation Models, Machine Learning Research, Search, Knowledge, and AI Infrastructure.
